  • Thakek, Laos

    ()

Having been transported aboard a large cushy bus from the capital in Vientiane with our good friends from New Zealand, we arrived groggy and reflecting upon our food purchases (Simon excited by the idea of several barbecued, seasoned, fully shelled, skewered eggs on a stick) to the dozy town of Thakek; a town to be one of the biggest highlights of this trip, due to it’s nearby limestone rock formations and overall laid-back personality.

  • Vang Vieng

    ()

Historically Vang Vieng has a poor reputation as the type of destination for the young backpackers to get completely wasted while floating down the river from bar to bar in an inner tube. It got so out of hand that more than 27 people died in 2011 from either drowning or diving head first. Since then changes to regulations have managed to change the town somewhat from party town to adventure location - hence our arrival.

  • Ayutthaya, Thailand

    ()

After spending our time rock climbing and, let’s be honest, lazing around we had to catch up on our journey. You’d almost forget that we have places to be! So we decided to sacrifice some good quality sleep and take not one, but two night trains in a row to get us all the way to Chiang Mai

  • Khao Sok, Thailand

    ()

After four or five hours (it felt a lot longer) in another of Thailand’s stuffed minibuses, now well familiar to us, we arrived in the beautiful Khao Sok.

  • Koh Lanta, Thailand

    ()

The next stop after Tonsai was an island paradise called Koh Lanta. There are many islands to choose from in Southern Thailand, but we picked this one for its convenient location, its reputation for being more laid back than some of the party islands, and positive reviews from anyone who went.

  • Tonsai Beach, Thailand

    ()

We picked Tonsai over the more popular Railay next door as it is less touristy, cheaper, and more exclusive to climbers

  • Penang Island, Malaysia

    ()

Georgetown, the first city where we both wanted to stay much longer.

  • Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

    ()

When we started planning this trip for Malaysia, we were presented with a plethora of options. However, one particularly striking location stood out, Cameron Highlands

  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    ()

Kuala Lumpur, where we experienced many firsts, learned the meaning of sweat, got what we paid for and ate all things.

  • Singapore

    ()

We’ve both spent many a layover flight wandering around the airport in the past, but neither of us ever made it out of the airport into the warm sticky air…

  • Farewell New Zealand

Let’s take a stroll through some of our adventures before we start getting all teary-eyed on the subject.
